Second Cleaning Day on the Critical Biological Area of Magaluf 2021
The Environment and Ecological Transition service of Calvià Town Hall, with the collaboration of Red Cross volunteers, a brigade from Estel de Llevant (from the Sustainable Tourism Tax) and the Species Protection Service, from the regional ministry of Environment and Territory, have carried out in November a second cleaning day on the Critical Biological Area (ABC) of Magaluf wetlands.
In total, 230 kg of waste have been collected, which were removed and weighed by the Calvià 2000 municipal public company:
-Glass: 70 Kg
-Packaging: 25 Kg
-Waste: 90 Kg
-Bulky: 45 Kg
The councillor for Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano, the councillor for Magaluf, Marc López, and the general director of Environment, Ecological Transition and Sustainable Development of Calvià Town Hall, José Francisco Giménez, thanked the Red Cross volunteers, the Estel de Llevant staff and the technical staff of Calvià Town Hall and the Species Protection Service, who participated in the day, for their work, which made possible to fill three containers of packaging, two containers of glass and a large container of waste.
Rafel Sedano highlighted the importance of this initiative that seeks, not only the cleaning of an area with an important level of protection, but the importance that this has with regards to the biodiversity of the environment.
This action is part of the European Waste Reduction Week, and aims to clean this area of special biological interest in the municipality of Calvià and raise public awareness on issues of environmental protection regarding the problem of waste.
The European Waste Reduction 2021 campaign is a common action across the continent to raise awareness on waste reduction and the problems it generates.
