CALVIÀ ORGANISES THE 'PRIMAVERA PER LA MEMÒRIA'

A series of activities will be carried out remembering the people retaliated by the Franco regime

Calvià Town Hall, through the Department of Democratic Memory, will commemorate in March and in April the 'Primavera per la Memòria'. It is a set of activities that commemorate victims of reprisals or murdered people during the civil war and during the Franco dictatorship, and which has been organised in collaboration with Obra Cultural Balear de Calvià, Memòria de Mallorca, Col•lectiu Recerca and the Governing Council of Sa Societat.

The documentary "Nosaltres els vencedors", written and directed by Pere Salom and Antoni Maria Thomàs, which focuses on the repressors and their descendants thanks to the knowledge of 9 specialists and personal testimonies, will be screened on Friday 11th March, at Sa Societat.

Sa Societat will also be the scenario, on Saturday 26th March, for the theatre play “Fragments. Mallorca durant la Guerra Civil”, by Gabriel Janer Manila, by Alicorn Teatre, a dramatic performance, directed by Francesc Aguiló, built through the independent stories of wounded and brave women. Some stories that make up an overall image, that of a terrible and violent world.

Primavera per la Memòria will also feature the presentation of two books. On 7th April, Manel Suárez will present Mateu Morro and his book “Els Norats (1936-1949), dos antifeixistes a les muntanyes mallorquines”. Morro tells the story of Honorat Tries and Jaume Tries (father and son), who were forced to flee and hide in the Majorcan mountains to avoid being killed by the Falangists after Franco's coup. On 21st, Miquel Rosselló will present his new book “Llibertat, amnistia, estatut d'autonomia”, a compilation of memories framed in Mallorca between the end of 1973 and June 1977. Both presentations will take place at Sa Societat.

As every year, on 16th April, in the Bosque de la Memoria, the traditional act of commemoration of the Republic will be held, organised by Memòria de Calvià, in which, coinciding with the date of proclamation of the second Republic, a tribute is made to the people who were retaliated for defending it.

Finally, for Saturday 30th April, an excursion to Coanegra has been organised, a visit to the places where the Norats lived. The tour will begin in Baix des Puig, the place where the Norats received more help and from where they left for exile in 1949, passing through Can Parró and la caseta des Garroveral, where father and son sometimes went to drink and wash. You will also pass along the path that surrounds es Cabàs and s'Extremera and from where you can see the mountains where they had their hiding places.
