918 Calvià students have already received aid for the start of the school year aimed at students enrolled in public centres who have to take lessons at the second cycle of Infant, Primary, Compulsory Secondary or Baccalaureate. In total, 918 grants have been awarded for a total of 148.705 euros. Thus, one more year, the proposed objective so that families can count on this help before the start of the school year, is achieved.
This is an aid granted by the Social Development Area launched in 2017 and is intended to subsidise part of the expenses that families -with students enrolled in public centres- have at the beginning of the school year, such as the purchase of textbooks, digital textbooks, curricular material, IT infrastructure for study, etc.
In three years, the Town Hall has increased the budget item by 80%, which already doubled in 2020 with an extraordinary contribution, going from 126.910 euros to 257.920 euros to respond to the significant increase in requests received due to of the effects of the pandemic. For 2022, an amount of 230.000 euros was budgeted.
Year 2022: 918 grants, for 148.705 euros.
Year 2021: 1.369 grants, for 220.420 euros.
Year 2020: 1.440 grants, for 253.965 euros.
Year 2019: 374 grants, for 66.665 euros.
As was already done in the 2021 call, the procedures have been made easier for families, simplifying procedures and even awarding the subsidy ex officio to families whose data was already available in Social Services.
The grants' amounts range from 110 euros per student in Early Childhood Education and the lower grades of primary school, up to 225 euros for students in the upper courses of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate.
