THE CALVIÀ SHEEP AND GOAT FAIR 2023 HAS BEEN PRESENTED
The Fair, to be held on 15th and 16th April, will have a full programme of activities throughout the week
Today, the 2023 edition of Fira d'Oví i Caprí de Calvià has been presented, which has been held for 23 years and which will take place on 15th and 16th April.
The councillor for the Environment and Democratic Memory of Calvià, Rafel Sedano, has presented the event in an act in which have taken part different members of the civil society involved in the rural and cultural world of Calvià and the entire municipality: Xesc Sans, president of the Calvià Farmers Association; Antonia Rubio, coordinator of the Ball de Bot School; Tomeu Oliver, member of the Pere Josep Canyelles and Geganters de Calvià Associations; and Pep Toni Rubio, xeremier (bagpiper) and member of Música nostra.
The XXIII Oví i Caprí Fair in Calvià has a varied and complete programme of activities for 15th and 16th April, but also for the previous week, for all ages and audiences and, in the words of councillor Rafael Sedano “ it becomes a popular celebration where not only we recall traditions, but also take pride in our farmers. The Fira is an excellent opportunity to bring knowledge and innovation to the Calvià countryside and disseminate the life and landscape of the municipality's peasantry, as well as a display of all the culture and vitality of the Calvià society, the main protagonists of the bulk of the activities that are carried out".
The fair will bring, once again, the local farmers to the people who visit it and will allow them to enjoy days related to the countryside and the culture and tradition of Calvià. A fair that contributes to continue valuing the local primary sector, while allowing us to persevere in the objective of continuing to support the Calvià people who work in this sector.
The event will include the traditional animal exhibition, the craft and food market, the Majorcan breed and the Majorcan red breed males and sheep morphological contest, and a shearing exhibition.
Within the framework of the Fair, the XIV Shepherd Dog Contest will also take place, scoring for the Balearic Islands Championship. In addition, the Sheep and Goat Hall will be held, which will feature a tasting of lamb meat, as well as Mallorcan sheep and goat cheeses. There will be the popular gastronomic exhibition and the possibility of tasting outstanding elaborations on the occasion of the Fira in the different bars of the village, with lamb as the main ingredient.
Likewise, various activities for all ages will be carried out, as well as various family and musical cultural activities.
