EUROPEAN ARCHEOLOGY DAYS AT PUIG DE SA MORISCA ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK
Calvià celebrates the day with a conference and workshops that will take into account the rich archaeological heritage of the municipality
The European Archeology Days will be held on 16th and 17th June with the aim of bringing Archeology closer to the civil society, from various points of view, giving visibility to all aspects related to archaeological heritage, and encouraging the participation of all.
The Calvià Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park Museum joins this initiative to take into account the rich archaeological heritage of the municipality.
For this reason, two activities are offered on 16th and 17th June:
Friday, 16th June, from 7 to 8 pm: Lecture "Death in the prehistory of Mallorca: a sensory experience", by Dr. Margalida Coll, ArqueoUIB researcher. Concern for death has been central to the development of humanity. In this conference, by the hand of Dr. Coll, attendees will be introduced to the funerary practices that the post-talayotic communities developed at the end of Mallorca's prehistory. Beyond the mortuary objects, it will take a tour of the sensations and emotions that marked the funeral experiences of people in the past during the burial process of one of the members of the community.
Saturday, 17th June, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Family workshop “Dying in prehistoric Mallorca: ritual objects and people”, by Dr. Margalida Coll and sa Morisca Archaeological Park technical team. This workshop, aimed at families with children aged between 6 and 12, will recreate a post-talayotic burial, turning the attendees into the protagonists of prehistoric funeral rituals, experiencing first-hand the mix of sounds, noises, smells, lights and textures that were characterised and thus be able to understand the people who lived more than 2.000 years ago in Mallorca.
