27 YOUNG PEOPLE FROM CALVIÀ BEGIN THEIR SUMMER WORK INTERNSHIPS

University degree or education cycle students will strengthen their knowledge in Calvià Town Hall centres and private companies. The Mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, and the Deputy Mayor for Education, Jaime Bujosa, have welcomed the 27 scholarship holders who are going to do internships over the summer. In the presentation ceremony this morning, they were informed about the operation and characteristics of the scholarship, as well as basic training in data protection and occupational risks.

BECAlvià is a way to carry out summer work practices, so each young person will receive a monthly income of €420 gross for their twenty hours a week dedication. The Calvià summer scholarships may also be extended to the month of September and offer practical training for the development of technical, methodological, personal and participatory skills that in the future will facilitate labour market insertion.

The selection of scholarship holders is basically centered on the average academic grades. Of the twenty-seven scholarships awarded this year, twenty are developed in municipal departments and services, such as the Llar de Calvià, Calvià 2000, Historical Heritage, Culture or Transparency. Amongst the collaborating entities, which host the other seven scholarship holders in July and August, are Wireless DNA, Rehabilitación Calvià, Western Water Park, Fundació de Solidaritat Amaranta, Clínica veterinaria La Vileta (La Vileta Veterinary Clinic) or the Centro Balear de Biología Aplicada (Balearic Centre for Applied Biology).

The BECAlvià summer programme is one of the most consolidated, it began operating in 1993 and has served to value the students of the municipality and their professional future. It should be noted that since 2011 all scholarship holders have to be registered in the Social Security.
