INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ
The Calvià plainclothes police arrested 26 people on the first weekend of August and seized a cache in Santa Ponsa
The detainee for the Santa Ponsa stash is a sub-Saharan man in search and arrest who injured a police officer and has entered prison
The Calvià Local Police plainclothes officers have made a total of 26 arrests on the first weekend of August, which together with the 18 made the previous week amount to 44 since the beginning of the operation. The four plainclothes police officers —the maximum number authorised by the Government Delegation to date— represent a new line of police action in the municipality with a view to improving citizen security in the middle of the tourist season, especially in everything related to attacks against the public health from drug retail and beach thefts.
Amongst the arrests, it is worth noting that of a sub-Saharan man carried out last Saturday night in Santa Ponsa. The man, with numerous police records, was in search and capture and is currently in pre-trail detention. The trafficker fled and when he was caught by one of the police officers he struggled, thus causing minor injuries to the policeman who is on leave. Cocaine packets 'wraps', designer drugs and cash were seized from him, amongst others.
In addition to the arrests against public health and for thefts, the Calvià Local Police have filed two reports on individuals for the practice of balconying —not falling, but caught going from one balcony to another—, which together with four filed so far this season there are a total of six penalised for this so dangerous practice. Likewise, 15 reports have been filed for contravening various municipal ordinances.
Given the good results achieved so far, the consistory will address the Government Delegation to request at least doubling the number of plainclothes police officers and go from four to eight.
