Calvià enjoys an intense weekend: Moors and Christians face each other again in Santa Ponsa 794 years later

The Rei En Jaume festivities reach their peak with a medieval market, traditional events and concerts

Calvià faces an intense weekend with the closing of the Rei En Jaume festivities in which the acts multiply. This year marks the 794th anniversary of the landing. The mayor of the municipality, Juan Antonio Amengual, has highlighted the efforts of the collas (groups) involved, the residents and the public workers to carry out the festivities marked by the two storms that have hit the municipality: "this year things have turned difficult, but it is such the enthusiasm and desire to get ahead that the festivities are going to be a success, I have no doubt ».

The mayor together with members of the consistory have visited the medieval market. From Santa Ponsa he has encouraged the residents of other municipalities to join the events of the second weekend of the Rei En Jaume festivities: “these Santa Ponsa festivities are also celebrated by the entire municipality and in all Mallorca''. Neighbours from other municipalities are welcome, we await them with open arms, as well as the tourists who visit us. Calvià is a municipality open to all, these days more than ever”.

Until Sunday visitors can visit the medieval market from 12:00 p.m. to 01:00 a.m. on the Santa Ponsa beach promenade (Balneari street and Rei Jaume I avenue). In parallel, this Friday the 8th the Moors parade and the Ball dels escamots take place starting at 8:00 p.m. from the Plaza de la Pinada in Santa Ponsa. In the same place, starting at 10:00 p.m., the night starts until dawn with a concert by Estados de Ánimo —a tribute band to El canto del loco— along with Valnou and DJ Simonet.

On Saturday the 9th the highlight is the Moors and Christians parade. The groups gather at the Santa Ponsa Cross at 5:30 p.m. and the parade begins at 6:00 p.m. They will have their first battle at Caló d'en Pellisser. There, we will see King En Jaume (Jaume Nadal, colla Reial Jaume I) and Abu Yahya (Esther Carigüela, colla Al Madina). At 10:00 p.m. the concerts will begin in La Pinada with Versionados, Siloé and DJ Lady Gosya.

On Sunday 10, the traditional solemn mass will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Santa Ponsa church and the festivities will end with a fireworks display on the beach at 10:30 p.m.
