CALVIÀ SUPPORTS THE MAGALUF DESEASONALISATION THROUGH THE EXPANDED LITERATURE FESTIVAL
In the third edition, the objective is to increase the event's international impact and separate the area from excess tourism
The third edition of the Magaluf Expanded Literature Festival (FLEM) was presented at the Innside by Melià hotel in Magaluf, this midday.
The literary event that will bring together around thirty writers and artists from 5th to 8th October. This event has had the support of Calvià Town Hall and Fundación Calvià since its first edition, since it combines culture and tourism, in addition to being scheduled outside of the high season.
The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, has highlighted FLEM as an event that mobilises tourists and residents interested in culture. Magaluf appears in the international media throughout the summer and the Festival serves "to change the image of the area and promote an area with a privileged environment and offer." It should be taken into account that the media impact of Magaluf linked to the literary event is valued at around 900 thousand euros. Amengual has also assured that in future editions it will be possible to continue enjoying this cultural initiative and also a new Beach Promenade.
Although the FLEM has Magaluf as its base of operations, it has also carried out various artistic initiatives in Berlin, Leipzig, Liverpool and New York. The Magaluf area is one of the strategic areas of Calvià where most work has been done to attract high purchasing power tourism throughout the year. While the first edition of the FLEM was attended by around two thousand people, it is expected that this year it could even quadruple and have the attendance of about eight thousand people. The FLEM international event has the firm purpose of changing the image of Magaluf and repositioning this area away from the excess tourism concept.
The FLEM's local edition begins on Thursday 5th October and will run until 8th October. In addition to writers, it will also feature other artists such as illustrators and comedians. It will open with the show by The New Raemon&Paula Bonet. This year, in addition, gastronomy and a cycling route are added as key elements of quality tourism. In this edition, the speaker will be the cartoonist Tonina Matamalas and live podcasts will also be created. The Festival will have a two-hour playroom service to help with family conciliation. All the events are free of charge.
FLEM puts an emphasis on new roles in literature, breaking stereotypes and offering new experiences, which has already positioned the festival as the leading literary event in Mallorca. The programming includes a wide heterogeneous offer to appeal to all audiences, with innovative proposals that go beyond the literary world, such as a route through Magaluf to observe its neon signs or the Nail Art Room, with the specialist who has worked on the nails of Rosalía or Nathy Peluso.
Interested people can register starting 18th September on www.literaturaexpandida.com. Likewise, on 29th September, a clean-up day of the Magaluf marina will be held in collaboration with the Red Cross.
