THE LLAR DE CALVIÀ (SENIOR CITIZENS' HOME OF CALVIÀ) BEGINS RESIDENTS' OUTINGS TO THE MUNICIPAL BEACHES TWICE A WEEK DURING THE SUMMER

The measure seeks to improve the mood of the elderly and break with the routine

The Llar de Calvià has launched new outdoor activities for residents. Starting this week, outings to the municipality's beaches have begun, scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays. The first outing was to Palmanova. This measure is part of a revitalisation plan to offer recreational and healthy experiences to around 60 residents of the Llar. Last year, equine therapy was launched with excellent results, which has recently given way to dog therapy. In the same way, residents' outings are frequently scheduled.

Juan Caimari, manager of the Llar de Calvià, explained that "we must constantly break with routine, the greatest enemy of the elderly.

For this reason, we seek ways to allow residents to have new experiences and alternatives both inside and outside the Llar. The important thing is that, from time to time, we propose changes that keep them active and happy. Small initiatives such as going to the beach may seem a small thing, but for many of our residents it is an experience that they have not had in years''.

For her part, Fina Riera, a psychologist at the centre, points out that "going to the beach gives them great benefits, sensorial experiences such as feeling the sand, water, sea breeze again... And also healthy, such as the moderate exposure to the sun to obtain vitamin D and improve mood''.
