Calvià, 11 April 2005.- This morning the Councillor for Commerce at Calvia Town Hall, Isidre Cañellas, has motivated the catering sector to incorporate the signs in their establishments as a way "to increase the satisfaction and loyalty of the customer". Cañellas made these declarations during an informative meeting celebrated in the Casa de la Vila to mark the act of initiating the proceedings so that the bars, restaurants and cafeterias can incorporate the Q for quality in their premises
This morning restaurateurs, owners of establishments belonging to the sector, and leaders of the bars, restaurants and cafeteria associations in Calvia filled the exhibition hall at the Town Hall to mark the presentation of the quality programme promoted by the Institute of Tourist Quality at the Ministry of Tourism of the Balearic Islands Government. The act counted with the presence of Isidre Cañellas, Councillor of Calvia Town Hall; Miguel Hernández, Director of the IQT, y Carlos Martínez, Manager of the Catering Associacion of Mallorca.
The aim of this act was to motivate the businessmen to apply rules of quality in their establishments, incorporating protocolos of action that imply optimum levels of service, cleanliness, attention to the cliente, etc. In the municipality of Calvià there are about one thousand establishments dedicated to the catering sector and related areas, being one of the most important economic subsectors. Calvia Town Hall already organized the I Muestra de Cocina of Calvià (Exhibition of Majorcan cuisine ) with the aim of promoting and diffusing the magnificent quality of the catering occer in the municipality. It is a fact that some of the participants in the la Muestra have expressed their interest in incorporating the quality label in their premises.
Restaurant Guide in Calvià
Isidre Cañellas reminded everybody that quality "is a strategic way ofaction of the Commerce Service at the Town Hall" and stated that "Quality produces in the medium term a better results account". A spokesman for UM in Calvià advanced to those present that the Town Hall was working on an edition of a Restaurant Guide of the municipality in which the establishments with the Q of quality would be recommended and would have preferential place. Last 16 March an act similar to todays took place, but on that occasion it was addressed to the small businessman.
For his part, Miguel Hernández, Manager of IQT, stated that there will be a future for the companies that are certified and that the Q means a better profitability in a business as well as continuous training of the personnel. He also pointed out that to get the interested parties more involved, the label would be free for the first three years.
Many of the restaurateurs present at the informative act have already completed the forms to join the campaign, although some had previously expressed their particular worry at the unfair competition of some premises.
