Calvià, 21 March 2005.- The Councillor for Commerce, Economy, Tax and Youth of Calvià Town Hall, Isidre Cañellas, and the insular Manager for Youth of the Consell of Mallorca, Magdalena Estrany, inaugurated the Ciber Espai Jove of Peguera. This premise is equipped with a dozen computers that can be used by the young people of the municipality free of charge.
The Ciber Espai Jove of Peguera is located in the municipal building situated in the calle Malgrats, nº 17 in Peguera, just next to the Basic Health Unit and the Centre for Senior Citizens.
The inauguration ceremony started early in the morning with an open day and a caricature workshop using computers.
In the inaugural speech, Isidre Cañellas thanked Injuve, a body depending on the Ministry of Work and Social matters, for their collaboration in financing the computer equipment at the Ciber Espai Jove. In the opinion of Mr. Cañellas, "This is an example of collaboration between two institutions of different political colours" that have made reaching an agreement possible "to the benefit of the citizens of Calvià, and in this particular case to the youngest".
As far as Magdalena Estrany was concerned, she comented that this space "is a place that is the envy of other municipalities and "an example to follow". The Insular Manager of Juventud of the Consell of Mallorca offered the collaboration of the Majorcan Goverment to Calvia Town Hall in order to work together on all those projects that have the aim of reaching young people.
After the inauguration, Isidre Cañellas y Magdalena Estrany awarded the prizes to the winners of the mascots competition of Ciber Espai Jove. The three winning designs were: Jovetrònic, Punk and Fius.
This municipal infrastructure wishes to be a dynamic space, directed towards young people between 14 and 30 years old, basically, where they can find computers to generate ideas and initiatives. Minors under 18 years of age need the authorization of their parents or tutors. Furthermore, these premises would like tobe a meeting point for young people and their friends, a space where they can get to know one another, mix with other young people and a place to take advantage of their free time.
At the Ciber Espai Jove you can find free connection to internet, games online and activities and basic courses for the user. At the same time, this centre provides young people with the new technologies to look for advice on schoolwork and widen their knowledge at the time of undertaking research and investigation work.
An informer and a youth dynamizer will be in charge of assessing and orientating the young people, as well as keeping a watch on the correct use of the computers. The municipal staff will also inform the users of the different programmes on information and dynamization promoted from the Town Hall. It is also forecast the installation of a youth information point within this place, where consultations on all kinds of things of interest to yourng people can be made: belonging to associations, health, sports, leisure, training, etc.
The inaugural day finished off with a working session directed to the youth associations of the municipality where they analized the procedures they need to follow in order to apply for a subsidy from the public administration.
