The Mayor highlights the main projects driven by the Town Hall with the objective of reducing seasonality
Calvià, a model Tourist resort area. This was the message conveyed not only by the hoteliers and officials at the World Travel Market, but also the opinion of many of the main players in tourism who gathered at this excellent event held recently in London.
The director of Thomas Cook, Manny Fontenia-Novoa named Calvià and more specifically the resort of Magaluf as a model tourist resort which sets an example as being one of those resorts which invests in the continued improvement of services and facilities, thus bringing increased numbers of visitors to the area. The statistics back this up. Calvià has been host to over a million British tourists this year which represents 6.25% 0f British tourists which have chosen Spain as their holiday destination.
Magaluf sees the highest concentration of British visitors to the municipality although this is diversifying to other resorts. Mayor Carlos Delgado wanted to highlight at World Travel market the importance of growth in the British market ( Some 50% of visitors to Calvià are British ) also the recuperation of the german market in the Peguera area.
For the Mayor and his Government team its important to work with differentiated touristic products, therefore he used this opportunity to reiterate some of the main projects planned for this present term such as the Palace of Congress, Sports Centre, Theme Park and the museum of Contemporary art.
