La Caixa have awarded the Calvià home for the elderly the amount of 7.200 € in order to meet the cost of the new Aqua Therapy  project This project has been developed over the course of the current year.

The concept of Aqua Therapy is based on the use of water as a therapeutic measure, particularly effective in the treatment of locomotor and neurological problems, as well as trauma and degenerative illness.

The treatment makes use of flotation and reduced gravity in the water to speed up the rehabilitation process, this is not always obtainable with conventional measures.

Over the course of the year some 21 people from The Calvià home and day centre have taken part in the project, the average age of participants is 81 years.

At a recent meeting attended by Mayor Carlos Delgado the continued financing of the project into 2008 was agreed, thus increasing cooperation between the Calvià home and La Caixa with regard to gym and Aquagym for the elderly. These activities are ongoing and as from January will be managed from the Calvià home.
