On Sunday 16 December the XXIV Calvià Marathon and half marathon will take place
On Sunday 16 December the XXIV Calvià Marathon and half marathon will take place. The start is at 09.00 in Avenida de Les Palmeres (next to the Polideportivo Magalluf). The actual race will be run over both built up and none built up areas, will cover a distance of 21,097 kilometres and the maximum completion time will be 5 hours as the finish line will close at 14.00.
The circuit will be completely closed to traffic with the exception of authorised vehicles. Police will issue fines and sanctions even to bicycles which are unauthorised.
The distribution of numbers (bibs) will take place on Friday between 5pm and 8pm then again on Saturday between 10am and 6pm at the Hotel Antillas Barbados in Magalluf, the same venue for the Sunday prize giving ceremony which will take place at 5pm.
We must highlight that Calvia Town Hall will award a prize for Humanity and Sportsmanship to the contestant who most demonstrates these values whether an athlete or not.
At present there are 518 runners registered (156 for the marathon and 362 for the half marathon) these people come from Germany, Argentina,Austria,Ecuador,Scotland,Spain,France,Holland,England,Ireland,Italy,Mexico and Sweden.
Amongst the well known runners is Jose Antonio Requejo, winner from 2006 and Antonio Marti Martin, winner from 2004.
The Marathon is organised by ADA Calvia and is sponsored by Calvià Town Hall, Hotel Group Sol Melia and Caja Mediterraneo.
