The city police develops a campaign of information, observation and control of animals that live in the human environment

Calvià Town Hall in order to encourage compliance with local laws pertaining to the keeping of ,and the welfare of, animals kept as pets in the human enviroment are developing a campaign of informing and observation, control and where relavant applying fines and sanctions for none compliance of the law.

This campaign is being carried out by two plain clothed police officers at different times and in different areas of the Municipality of Calvia, It has so far had some positive results:

  • Control of some 200 dogs
    • 63 denouncements of breaking the law
    • 32 for letting the dog run loose
    • 17 for taking dogs on the beach
    • 7 for not carrying plastic bags to pick up excrement
    • 6 For not picking up actual excrement
    • 1 For potentially dangerous breed of dog not wearing a muzzle


The law also classifies the fines according to the severity of the non compliance:

  • Minor fines of up to 300 euros (f.e. Dog running loose, no plastic bag for picking up excrement, dogs on the beach, dangerous dogs without muzzle)
  • Serious fines of up to 600 Euros (f.e. for not picking up excrement, taking dogs to child play areas and forbidden zones, dangerous dogs running loose with muzzle etc.)
  • Very serious. Fines of up to 3000 € (f.e. Dangerous dogs running loose without muzzle, training of dogs to be aggresive etc.)


Also under the local laws falls the collection of loose dogs and taking to the Municipal dog pound. The dogs owner must pay a penalty of up to 45 Euros and in addition a further 4 Euros per day that the anoimal has been housed in the dog pound.
