The local Calvià police held their annual celebration day, last Wednesday, with the traditional nominations and presentation of plaques to the officers of the force who have excelled in the line of duty.


During the course of the proceedings, the Deputy Mayor of Police, Bartolomé Bonafé and the Chief Inspector, Jaume Jaume Marcó, announced the achievements of the Summer 2008 Campaign. The second Deputy Mayor highlighted, during his presentation, the work carried out during the last year, in the battle against street vendors, especially on the beaches, in conjunction with the regulation passed in 2007, which has resulted in a huge reduction in the number of arrests. These have gone down from 1.204 in 2007 to 6 in the present year.


Along the same lines, he highlighted the work done in enforcing the regulation on ticket touts working on the streets, which has resulted in 100 complaints and, practically, the disappearance of these from the streets.


Afterwards, came the presentation of the nominations to the officers of the force who have excelled in the line of duty and the presentation of plaques to 8 officers for completion of 25 years service. Then a commemorative plaque was presented by the Deputy Mayor to Joan Feliu Amengual for his work and collaboration with the other police forces throughout his career, and for being the necessary force behind the modernisation of the various police forces.
