The Mayor Carlos Delgado and the Deputy Mayor Cristina de León awarded a grant of 1.545 euros to a family from Peguera for the adoption of a Bulgarian girl in 2008
The Mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado and the Deputy Mayor for Social Services, Cristina de León, have presented a new grant for international adoption to a family from Peguera who adopted a Bulgarian girl during the course of 2008.
This 1.545 euros grant is to help with the travelling expenses of both parents and child, and expenses incurred during their stay in Bulgaria whilst the necessary paperwork was completed. This grant is added to the previous 17, making a total of 34.871 euros, which the Town Hall has awarded since 2004, the year this project began, making Calvià a pioneering municipality in this aspect.
Calvià was the first Town Hall to become directly involved in the adoption process, by helping with the expenses. Back in 2004 grants were awarded to 4 families from Santa Ponça, Calvià vila, Son Caliu and Cas Català for the adoption of children from China and Russia. In 2005 3 grants were awarded to families from Portals Nous, Cas Català and Santa Ponça for the adoption of 3 Russian children.
In 2006, Calvià presented a total of 8 grants to families from Illetes, Palmanova, Nova Santa Ponça, Portals Nous, Costa d'en Blanes, El Toro and Calvià for the adoption of boys and girls from Russia, Nepal, Ethiopia, and China and in 2007 2 grants were awarded to families from Son Caliu and Santa Ponça for the adoption of children from Russia and El Salvador.
