Calvià has set up a municipal service for women who have been subject to violence and their children
The Deputy Mayor for Social Services, Cristina de León, presented, yesterday, the special service for women who have been subject to violence and their children which the Calvià Town Hall is carrying out, under the banner "Programme of Social Attention for Women".
This service is provided by a professional team consisting of a social educator, a psychologist, a social worker, family assistants and admin staff, in each one of the three social services offices of the consistory, situated in Magaluf, Santa Ponça and Son Ferrer, and offering a wide range of facilities for abused women.
The facilities include help with alternative accommodation, assistance via mobile phone, financial aid, translation service on line, information, advice and assessment, professional support and liaison with other administrations.
Furthermore, this service follows a procedure code for cases of domestic violence, consisting of four phases. The first phase is the "submission of the case" which can be done by either the citizen or by other methods. The second phase is the "acceptance and initial assessment" by a social worker who will decide the grade of urgency of the case and present an evaluation to the relevant team to form a work plan, either individual or family.
The next phase is the development of the "Work Plan". This plan seeks to guarantee the physical and emotional integrity of each member of the family, strengthen personal abilities and prevent possible abusive or overpowering situations and/or relationships. Here we must highlight the creation of a level of therapy treatment for both abused women and children, to achieve their emotional, cognitive and behavioural restructuring. As well as these specialised levels, work is also done on social, psychological and social-educational levels.
The fourth and final phase consists in referral to other specialised services and monitoring progress. Services such as intervention in domestic violence, healthcare, children's services and help with social and employment integration. (by way of "system of intervention on line").
Another of the basic pillars which form the special service for abused women and their children is the project for group intervention, which strives to address social problems, adapting municipal aid according to the necessities of the community. Therefore the support of group intervention is offered to women raising families on their own and to abused women and their children.
Finally, we would point out that the Department of Social Services also undertakes formation sessions, debates and conferences, amongst other things.
