- The construction of the new infrastructure will begin at the end of the year
Calvià Town Hall has welcomed the final approval by the Consell de Mallorca of the project to build a new civic road that will connect Peguera and Camp de Mar. This infrastructure, which will be suitable for both, pedestrians and bicycles, will promote more sustainable mobility by offering a safe alternative to motorised transport between the two towns.
This is the continuation of a pedestrian path that currently connects Camp de Mar with Andratx and Puerto de Andratx. This path will lengthen one kilometre and will run between the roundabout on Carrer de la Savina in Peguera and the roundabout on Camí de Son Fortuny in Camp de Mar.
The project also includes resurfacing the road, as technicians believe the material has eroded and needs renovation. The project will cost 1.629,489 €, and the tender is expected to be completed in November, allowing construction to begin by the end of the year. The work will last approximately six months.
The project
The road will run along the Ma-1A highway and will have two sections, with a width of 3 metres. The first will start in Camp de Mar; the slow lanes will be eliminated, and the path will be painted over the asphalt. The second section, the remaining 500 metres to Peguera, will be built on the sidewalk of the road using materials similar to those of the existing road. In addition, along this half-kilometre stretch, steel and wood barriers will be installed to separate pedestrians from traffic, and some sloped areas will be reinforced with triple twist mesh to prevent the risk of rock falls or landslides.
This project affects the municipalities of Calvià and Andratx and has been developed in coordination with both municipalities. The project was finally approved in July and construction will begin at the end of the year.
