Calvià continues to set trends and garner headlines and prominent mentions in the international press.

  • The influential British newspaper 'The Times' includes seven of the town's establishments in its list of the best family hotels in Mallorca, while the specialised press praises Magaluf's transformation
  • Major European publications, along with media outlets from America and Asia, are focusing on Calvià
  • Calvià Town Hall is hosting a group of European journalists this week to continue promoting the area's historical, natural, and coastal heritage

Calvià continues to set trends and garner headlines and prominent mentions in the international press, consolidating its position in foreign markets as a benchmark for quality, innovation, and sustainability. Through the diversification of its offerings—ranging from top-tier family tourism to nature-based leisure and cultural heritage—the municipality has managed to attract the attention of numerous global publications, which reflect positively on the transformation of Calvià's tourism model.

At the beginning of May, the prestigious British newspaper The Times published its list of the best hotels in Mallorca for a family holiday. Of the twenty hotels selected in its article as ideal for a family vacation, seven are located in the municipality of Calvià. The historic London newspaper describes iconic establishments such as the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort in Costa d’en Blanes, the Castell Son Claret in Es Capdellà, the Hotel Bonsol Resort & Spa in Illetes, and the Meliá Calviá Beach in Magaluf.

Last week, Travelling for Business, a digital publication specialising in corporate and business travel, published an article focusing on the transformation of Magaluf's tourism model, noting that the town is building "a new identity based on quality, diversifying its offerings, and attracting a more environmentally conscious visitor." The article, which mentions CONECTA Magaluf taking place at the end of the month, explains that Magaluf is strengthening its position as a venue for important cultural and professional events, diversifying the destination's offerings and thus generating activity throughout the year.

It's worth noting that Travelling for Business, a publication with a journalistic perspective focused on UK executives and businesspeople traveling abroad, belongs to the same British publishing group as Business Matters, the largest and longest-running business magazine for SMEs in the country. The article about Calvià also discusses the complete renovation of the seafront promenade, the selfie route implemented in Magaluf, and the new cultural route "Calvià, Film Set."

Furthermore, last week Selling Travel published an article on hiking, selecting five active holiday options in Europe, one of which is Calvià. The municipality is presented as an ideal retreat for Mediterranean excursions, inviting travelers to discover its landscapes at a leisurely pace, enjoying both nature and disconnection. Selling Travel Magazine is a UK publication aimed at tourism professionals. It maintains a strong hybrid format in the British market, continuing to publish and print a bimonthly print magazine, primarily distributed to brick-and-mortar travel agencies in the UK and tour operators.

The article is designed to inspire British travel agents to sell tour packages focused on slow travel and wellness, taking advantage of May being National Hiking Month in the UK. The description of Calvià mentions the four new marked and certified routes within the municipality, totaling 21,6 kilometres, approved according to the criteria of the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEDME), with a reference to the Galatzó public estate.

Similarly, the launch of a selfie route in Magaluf garnered significant national and international attention during April. The news was covered by dozens of media outlets worldwide, including the renowned British newspaper The Independent, the leading French daily Le Figaro, and the well-known German newspaper Bild. It also made headlines on the veteran American portal AOL (America Online) and on the US edition of Yahoo. Interestingly, the news was reported in countries as diverse as Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Slovenia, Albania, Turkey, India, and Singapore. In India, for instance, the Magaluf selfie route was published by Firstpost, one of India's leading media outlets and part of the country's largest digital news group.

‘Press Trip’ in Calvià

To continue promoting the municipality's diverse tourism offerings, a group of seven journalists from various countries, invited by the Calvià Town Hall, arrives today, Thursday. Over four days, they will explore different sites within the municipality, including the Puig de Sa Morisca Archaeological Park, the Galatzó Estate, and the Landing Cross.

They will also visit various locations along the Calvià coast, including Mago Beach, where they will learn about the "Calvià is Cinema" project, and take a boat trip to the Malgrats Islands. The journalists will also discover the charms of the municipality's interior, visiting Calvià vila and Es Capdellà.

This group of communicators, from Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Austria, will be responsible for promoting Calvià's tourism offerings from their respective fields. Thanks to the diversity of its professional subsectors, the promotional activity guarantees multi-channel dissemination and varied editorial coverage.

As an example, a professional works for Weather2Travel, a publication with a wide range of topics including travel advice and suggestions on where to travel in any month of the year to enjoy the best weather; another will prepare a comprehensive report on Calvià to be published in WIZZ Magazine, Wizz Air's in-flight magazine, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, and which is distributed in flights to destinations in 40 countries within a network of more than 500 different routes; and another is commissioned by Auto Touring from Austria, the official monthly magazine of the ÖAMTC (Österreichischer Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring Club), which is the main automobile and mobility club in Austria (the Austrian equivalent of RACE in Spain) which publishes articles on travel.
