  • This collaboration between the Town Hall and EMIFF will bring various film and audiovisual industry-related activities to Calvià between September and November, with events scheduled in Magaluf and Port Adriano
  • The alliance aligns with Calvià’s commitment to the audiovisual sector and the upcoming 15th edition of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, which runs from October 28 to November 4

Calvià Town Hall is doubling down on its commitment to cinema and the audiovisual industry by launching a partnership with the Evolution Mallorca Film Festival (EMIFF). Today, the Town Hall announced an alliance aimed at boosting cinema and audiovisual talent from the Balearic Islands thus strengthening the municipality's standing as a location for creative work and the audiovisual industry.

The collaboration thus links two projects that share a clear ambition for growth within the audiovisual sector. On one hand, there is the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, which reaches its 15th edition this year, having established itself as a meeting point for local, national, and international filmmakers, producers, actors, and professionals. On the other, there is the Town Hall's initiative to strengthen Calvià’s positioning throughout 2026 as a territory deeply connected to cinema, filming locations, and the audiovisual industry.

The collaboration's presentation event, held in the Town Hall’s plenary hall, was attended by—among others—Calvià Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual; Pedro Vidal, Regional Secretary for Culture and Sports for the Government of the Balearic Islands; Sandra Lipski, founder and director of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival; and Jaime Mora, Director General of Tourism and Communication for Calvià Town Hall.

"We are very pleased to bring the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival here," said Calvià Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual during the presentation. He also noted that "in 2026, we have launched a large number of projects that position our municipality as a benchmark in the islands' film scene. The fact that we host both the Atlàntida and Evolution festivals—both now based in Calvià—is a milestone. Furthermore, we are carrying out other initiatives, such as the AI International Short Film Festival (AIMA), which will continue in 2027."

The mayor emphasized his desire for "all this work to have continuity, to support talent from our islands, and to open up new opportunities for collaboration. Calvià has a great deal to offer the audiovisual sector, and these initiatives help us showcase that and establish new relationships."

Calvià and Magaluf, settings for audiovisual productions

The partnership with Evolution is also part of the tourism transformation and diversification process for Calvià—and Magaluf in particular—incorporating culture and audiovisual media as tools to generate activity, attract new audiences, and project an image of the destination linked to creativity and the cultural industry.

Throughout 2026, Calvià has strengthened its commitment to cinema through various initiatives aimed at both the general public and industry professionals, highlighting the diversity of its landscapes, spaces, and locations, as well as its capacity to host film shoots, professional gatherings, and audiovisual events.

The arrival of Evolution marks the next step in this strategy. The collaboration will not only showcase Calvià and Mallorca to filmmakers and professionals from various countries but also turn the municipality into a meeting point between the local Mallorcan audiovisual sector and the national and international guests Evolution brings to the island each year. In doing so, Calvià aims to foster new connections, collaborative opportunities, and projects linking talent from the Balearic Islands with the external audiovisual industry.

Four Evolution events in Calvià

The collaboration will take the form of various activities scheduled to run from September to November in Magaluf and other locations across the municipality.

The first event will take place on September 23 at Shallow Beach at INNSiDE by Meliá Calvià Beach, Magaluf, featuring a special presentation of the 15th edition of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival. The gathering will bring together representatives from the audiovisual sector, filmmakers, and industry professionals, serving as an opportunity to preview key highlights and names for EMIFF 2026, as well as to present the complete selection for "Made in Balears," the section of the festival dedicated to showcasing audiovisual talent from the Balearic Islands.

The programme continues on October 23 and 24 at the Port Adriano car park, which will transform into a large open-air cinema for two nights with the “Cine con Coche” (Drive-in Cinema) event. Two screenings will take place each day, at 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM. The initiative is also linked to a video featuring Toni Pons, created to showcase some of the municipality's filming locations.

During the Evolution festival, on Friday, October 30, the Meliá South Beach in Magaluf will host a gathering to mark the 20th anniversary of the Balearic Islands Filmmakers Association (ACIB).

The event will feature a panel discussion, a professional networking session, and screenings of works filmed in Calvià by ACIB filmmakers, highlighting both the islands' audiovisual creativity and the municipality's relationship with cinema.

Finally, on November 4, Calvià will be the focus of a special edition of Mallorca Go!—one of Evolution’s professional initiatives designed to connect the festival's international guests with Mallorca and its locations.

Mallorca Go! Calvià will propose a tour of various locations across the municipality to introduce them to filmmakers and industry professionals, showcase their potential as settings for future audiovisual projects firsthand, and facilitate networking between these international professionals and Mallorca’s audiovisual sector representatives—all coinciding with the “Calvià, Film Set” (Calvià, Plató de Cine) film route.

This initiative is driven by Calvià Town Hall and funded by the Balearic Islands Government’s Sustainable Tourism Tax, aiming to promote a tourism model that is more sustainable, responsible, and beneficial to the community as a whole.

Evolution celebrates fifteen years of connecting Mallorca with international cinema

Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival will hold its 15th edition from October 28 to November 4, 2026, once again bringing together filmmakers, actors, producers, and audiovisual industry professionals from various countries in Mallorca.

Guided by its philosophy of “Bridging Cultures – Bridging People,” Evolution combines film screenings, professional gatherings, industry activities, and opportunities for local and international talent to connect.

The full programme for the 15th edition will be announced on October 15; however, an event in Magaluf on September 23 will offer a preview, revealing some of the first major names, this edition’s Special Award recipients, and the complete “Made in Balears 2026” selection.

2026: Declared the “Year of Cinema in Calvià''

During 2026—declared the “Year of Cinema in Calvià”—the municipality has hosted the inaugural AI & Cinema Day, the AI Movie Awards (AIMA) festival, and the CONECTA Magaluf international forum; these three film production events brought together renowned national and international industry professionals in the area.

Additionally, last June, Calvià brought the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest to Magaluf Beach to mark the inauguration of the new Gabriel Escarrer Juliá seafront promenade, transforming the town’s beachfront into a cultural gathering space open to both residents and visitors through a great night of outdoor cinema and music.

Furthermore, in an effort to blend audiovisual culture with tourism and local heritage, the local council has launched the "Calvià, Film Set" route—an itinerary designed to showcase the municipality's beaches and landscapes, which have served as natural backdrops for prominent national and international productions.
