- The Town Hall wants to promote a “solid commitment” to animal welfare
The Calvià Town Hall is launching a Christmas campaign to raise awareness about the importance of responsible pet ownership, and to invite all those people who are thinking of acquiring or adopting one to meditate about it.
The aim is to promote a solid commitment to animal welfare, moving away from the idea of giving pets as gifts in order to satisfy a temporary impulse. A pet is a companion, not an ornament or a toy, and its adoption implies a commitment that must last a lifetime. Therefore, it is essential to reflect on the responsibilities involved in caring for an animal, from its physical and emotional needs to its regular veterinary care.
The council encourages families to visit the Calvià Animal Protection Centre or view the profiles of dogs looking for a home on the municipal website. Many of these animals have needed dog training sessions, as a result of abandonment and irresponsible decisions by their previous owners.
At this time of year, more than ever, people are suggested to change decorations for commitment, giving animals a second chance and building homes where their life and well-being are valued.
