Calvià launches four SOIB mixed programmes that provide training and employment to 37 people.

On 16th December 2025, the third deputy mayor, Manuel Mas, and the councillor in charge of the Employment and Training Institute of Calvià (IFOC), Simón Fuentes, welcomed the students joining the new SOIB mixed programmes managed by IFOC.

The presentation took place at the Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park and was attended by the student-workers, the programme directors, and teaching staff.

Through this initiative, framed within the "SOIB Dual training in the public sector, local entities and the third sector of social action 2025-2026" call, four mixed programmes were launched, currently involving a total of 37 unemployed individuals.

Thanks to the collaboration between SOIB and Calvià Town Hall, 18 young people under 30 (in the specialities of forestry worker and sports instructor) and 20 people over 30 (administrative assistant and gardening worker) have been hired. Throughout the process, they receive support from programme management professionals.

The mixed projects combine real work with theoretical and practical training within the framework of the alternating work and employment contract. Its aim is to improve the employability of participants by providing them with new professional skills. For this reason, in addition to obtaining professional certificates and one year of work experience, an individualised job placement plan is also developed for each trainee.

Two programmes for those under 30

This initiative allows for the hiring of unemployed young people between 16 and 29 years old who are registered with the SOIB (Balearic Islands Employment Service) and the National Youth Guarantee System. Participants combine their training with providing services of social interest to the municipality in two specialities:

Forestry Worker: Upon completion of the programme, participants will obtain professional certificates related to the conservation and improvement of forests. The work or services they carry out consist of forestry tasks such as clearing, cleaning, and maintaining paths and green areas, with a particular focus on the management of the natural environment and spaces such as the Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park.

Sports Instructor: This project focuses on promoting physical and recreational activities. Students carry out tasks promoting a healthy lifestyle and support the organisation and development of activities at various municipal sports facilities.

Two programmes for those over 30

The second programme is aimed at unemployed people aged 30 and over, facilitating their professional retraining. As with the youth programme, it combines formal training with practical work during the contract period:

Gardening Assistant: the student-workers are trained in auxiliary activities in plant nurseries and gardens.

They perform tasks related to the conditioning and maintenance of landscaped areas in different municipal buildings, promenades, and public spaces in Calvià.

Administrative Assistant: this project provides knowledge on administrative management operations. Participants carry out tasks related to information processing, user support, and data management, providing support to different departments and services that directly impact citizens.

Funding

These projects are funded by the SOIB with the participation of the SEPE and, depending on the line of action, co-financed by European funds:

Line 1 (young people between 16 and 29 years old): funded by the SOIB and co-financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) for the 2021-2027 period.

Line 2 (30 years or older): funded by the SOIB with funds from the Sectoral Conference on Employment and Labour Affairs.
