- It is an initiative of the Parc Arqueològic del Puig de sa Morisca for the civic use of protected areas
- The collection of dog litter and the obligation to walk them on a lead to preserve wildlife will be discussed
The Parc Arqueològic del Puig de sa Morisca is organizing two activities related to dogs this week, aimed at all audiences. These initiatives seek to promote historical knowledge and promote the responsible use of natural and heritage spaces. In relation to this issue, two problems have been detected: the fact that some people do not pick up their dogs' litter, counting more than 200 units in a single walk; and that some pets walk without a lead, which translates into several problems: unpicked feces, insecurity for children and adults, and significant impact on wildlife.
The first meeting will be on Thursday 28th November at 18:30 h at the Parc Arqueològic del Puig de sa Morisca. Dr. Jordi Rosell, an archaeologist specialising in prehistoric fauna, will offer a fascinating journey through the history of dog domestication. Amics ancestrals - Arqueologia de la domesticació del ca will address how this relationship between humans and dogs has evolved and its impact on prehistoric societies. Dr. Rosell is an internationally renowned researcher, member of IPHES and recipient of the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant from the European Union for his SCAVENGERS project, focused on the interactions between humans and carnivores in the Middle Palaeolithic.
The second meeting will be on Saturday 30th November from 10:30 to 13:30 h also at the Parc Arqueològic del Puig de sa Morisca and will be run by Social Dogs. Talk and educational walk: Walking with a dog in Sa Morisca will teach you how to enjoy natural and heritage spaces with dogs in a safe and respectful way. The activity includes a theoretical talk, a basic obedience practice and an educational walk.
This initiative seeks to promote the responsible use of the park, highlighting the importance of minimising impacts on flora, fauna and heritage, while ensuring the safety of pets and their owners. This activity is aimed at all audiences and is a perfect opportunity to learn and enjoy with your pet in a spectacular environment.
Both activities are free with prior registration by phone or email (971 13 92 18 – morisca@calvia.com).
