Calvià launches the fifth edition of its environmental awards, an annual event that recognises the most sustainable and innovative local initiatives.

  • Local projects that promote sustainability, biodiversity and environmental education are recognised
  • Interested entities can submit their applications until 4th November 2025

Calvià Town Hall has opened the fifth call for the Calvià Environment Awards, corresponding to the year 2025. The objective of these awards is to promote the development of environmental initiatives in the municipality, linked to sustainability, environmental education, energy transition, biodiversity and the reduction of waste and pollution. The deadline for submitting applications will be open from 3rd October to 4th November 2025. Legal entities that commit to developing an environmental initiative in Calvià during the year 2026, between the months of January and September, and that is related to the purpose of the call may participate.

In order to evaluate the Calvià Environment Awards applications, the jury will consider several aspects. They will evaluate whether the initiative responds to a real environmental need in the municipality and what impact it can have. They will also assess the involvement of volunteers, the project's ability to sustain itself over time, and its potential to connect different social sectors with the natural environment.

They will also consider the proposal's originality, the way it is intended to be disseminated, and the organization's environmental history: how many initiatives it has carried out previously and how frequently. Finally, they will review the quality of the submitted report, assessing whether it is well explained, clear, with images and solid planning.

The total economic endowment for this edition is €15,000, divided into six prizes. A first prize of €4,000 will be awarded to the initiative with the highest rating from the jury, a second prize of €3,000 to the second-place winner, and four runner-up prizes of €2,000 each will be awarded in the following categories: best environmental restoration and/or cleanup initiative, best action to promote or study biodiversity, best environmental awareness or education initiative, and best action to promote sustainability, energy transition, waste reduction, or pollutant reduction.

In the previous edition, held at the Galatzó Public Estate, the Calvià Town Hall awarded six environmental initiatives with a total economic endowment of €15,000. The first prize was awarded to the "Calvianers Sostenibles" project, developed by the Son Ferrer, Calvià, and Bendinat secondary schools for its environmental monitoring work on beaches and its involvement with primary schools and the tourism sector. The second prize went to the CEIP Son Ferrer AMIPA, for the creation of vertical planters in the school playground. Amongst the runners-up, initiatives from Protemar (land and underwater cleanup), ASDICA (installation of nest boxes), the Red Cross (environmental monitoring by kayak) and IES Calvià (organic school garden) were recognised. Also highlighted were projects from AMIPA IES Bendinat, APAEMA, SEO Birdlife, Blue Marina Puerto Portals and Obra Cultural Balear.
