Calvià now provides real-time beach occupancy data.

  • The data comes from the real-time monitoring technology of the Calvià DTI Project
  • Both residents and visitors can consult updated information on the situation and status of six beaches in Peguera, Palmanova, Magaluf, and Santa Ponça
  • The information can be found at calvia.com/es/playas

Calvià Town Hall is advancing the digitalisation of its tourist services by now publishing real-time occupancy data for the municipality's main beaches. This information includes both the number of people on the sand and in the water, as well as the percentage of occupancy relative to the total capacity of each beach. To ensure maximum usefulness of the service, the information is automatically updated every 10 minutes.

This capacity monitoring initiative is part of the Calvià DTI (Smart Tourist Destination) Project. Thus, residents and visitors can now check the status of six beaches located in Peguera, Palmanova, Magaluf, and Santa Ponça. In addition, in the coming weeks—as soon as all the buoys are installed—real-time information on water quality will be added to the occupancy data, detailing parameters such as temperature, pH, and turbidity.

Data that refutes overcrowding

It should be noted that, according to the monitoring results from last season, no beach in Calvià exceeded 50% occupancy during the summer of 2025, contradicting any claims of overcrowding on the municipality's beaches.

For instance, Son Maties beach, which recorded the highest occupancy rate, reached a maximum of 49,80% of its capacity on August 24. Meanwhile, Magaluf beach recorded its peak number of bathers on July 30, representing only 27,58% of its maximum capacity.

Analysis of this data demonstrates that Calvià's large beaches remained free of overcrowding, highlighting the quality, space, and comfort enjoyed by visitors.

Commitment to quality

Alongside digitalisation, the Town Hall hopes to retain the 15 Q for Quality flags awarded last year, making Calvià the third municipality in Spain and the first in the Balearic Islands with the most distinctions of this type. To display the Q for Tourism Quality flag, the beaches underwent a rigorous compliance process with the international standard UNE-ISO 13009. This standard, agreed upon by nearly one hundred countries, guarantees the highest quality in service provision and proper management of public facilities.

Obtaining strategic information to understand visitor behaviour allows the Town Hall to optimise municipal resources and anticipate the needs of each stage of the season to continue improving public services. In this way, Calvià reaffirms its commitment to excellence and consolidates its position as a leading Smart Tourist Destination, guaranteeing the best experience on its coastline for residents and tourists alike.
