- The emhas offers advice on physical exercise, balanced nutrition, emotional well-being, and proper sleep hygiene
- Calvià is a member of the Spanish Network of Healthy Cities (RECS)
The Sala Palmanova hosted the official presentation of the Municipal School of Healthy Habits (emhas) this Thursday, a pioneering and ambitious initiative that marks a milestone in the Calvià Town Hall's commitment to prevention and the well-being of its community. The emhas motto for next year is: "Make sport your routine and health your reward."
During the inauguration, the Mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, stated that health has become the driving force behind the municipal philosophy. "I want to be very clear from the beginning: the emhas is no longer just a project on paper, nor a distant idea. The emhas is a reality in progress."
The municipality, a member of the Spanish Network of Healthy Cities (RECS), firmly believes that promoting an active and healthy lifestyle improves community life, work performance, education, and ultimately, the happiness of society.
The emhas programme has been designed with a holistic approach based on four fundamental pillars: physical exercise, a balanced diet, emotional well-being, and proper sleep hygiene. The programme is designed so that "everyone can exercise, take care of themselves, and learn in a way that is appropriate to their age and physical condition."
Amongst the specific programmes, which are offered in collaboration with local health centers for activity prescription, the following stand out:
- B@les: Prescribed physical exercise for people with obesity or overweight.
- Strength Training: A specific programme for people with musculoskeletal ailments, including hotel housekeepers.
- Teal / Nutrition Education: Workshops for patients at high cardiovascular risk who do not follow the Mediterranean diet.
- Yoga: A prescription for improving emotional well-being in cases of stress or anxiety.
The Town Hall's commitment extends to sports infrastructure, with an ambitious plan to improve and modernise swimming pools, sports halls, and football fields.
The Mayor also highlighted the municipality's natural heritage as an invaluable resource: "There is no more inspiring or larger gym than the one that surrounds us."
Activities promoted by emhas, such as Nordic Walking and hiking trails, were emphasized. In this regard, the Galatzó Public Estate was cited as an example, "the municipality's great green lung, open to everyone, perfect for reconnecting with nature, with calm, and at the same time, activating the body and mind."
Furthermore, emhas' 2026 Resource Guide is now available for all citizens, offering such a wide and varied selection that, as noted at the event, it leads to only one conclusion: "There are no excuses for not doing sports and staying active."
