- Kathleen Bendelack writes, directs and performs in a theatre play for the whole family
- It is open to English speakers and residents with a basic knowledge of English
On 21st June at 7 p.m., the Sala Palmanova in Calvià will host a performance of Playing Dickens, a theatre play in English aimed at all audiences. This is a major cultural event that marks the return of English-language theatre to the municipality, with an offer accessible to both English speakers and residents with a basic knowledge of English.
Authoress and actress Kathleen Bendelack has pointed out that "we speak a very clear and slow-paced English, there are actors who are also from here, local, Mallorcan, speaking English, and that's very good because each one has their own accent, which is wonderful. The level of English is user, which would be like a B1."
For his part, Manuel Mas, deputy mayor responsible for Culture, points out that this is the start of a new line of proposals in the municipality: "it should be recalled that we have 53.000 residents, a multicultural municipality with a large number of British and English-speaking population. This theatre play is also interesting for the Mallorcan residents themselves.
The theatre play, a dreamlike and family reinterpretation of the classic Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, is produced by the Petite Production Company (PPC), and combines stage talent with live music to offer an immersive and close experience.
With this initiative, Calvià Town Hall reinforces its commitment to performing arts culture as a tool for inclusion and diversity, bringing quality shows to the public and promoting cultural exchange in a multilingual environment such as the municipality.
