- Both institutions renew safe leisure strategies
- The campaigns will be distributed on British social media and with posters and advertising in the municipality
Calvià Town Hall and the British Embassy in Spain renew their commitment to safe tourism and are going a step further for the forthcoming season. Both institutions presented their civic and responsible tourism campaigns at a meeting held at the Town Hall on Tuesday. The campaigns will be visible on UK social media and physically on posters in the municipality, especially in the Magaluf area.
Calvià campaign is based on the slogan Magaluf for all / Be responsible. It joins the slogan Stick with your mates promoted from the consular corps, which stresses the importance of not leaving fellow travellers alone, reinforcing the idea of helping each other. The Mayor of Calvià and officials from the British Embassy in Madrid and the British Consulate in Palma have stressed the importance of prevention and responsibility so that British visitors to our tourist destinations can enjoy a summer without incidents or serious accidents.
The meeting was attended by: Juan Antonio Amengual, Mayor of Calvià; Sarah Cowley, Minister Counselor at the British Embassy in Madrid; Randy Valbuena, British Vice Consul to the Balearic Islands; Lucy Gorman, Director of Consular Services in Spain; and Elisa Monserrat, Deputy Mayor for Tourism in Calvià. After the institutional meeting, they met with representatives of the tourism sector.
Amengual pointed out that "the combined campaigns are yielding results. We have been two years now without balconing in Calvià, and we can see the transformation of Magaluf, which is evident." For her part, Lucy Gorman welcomed the collaboration: "Young people should look out for each other. The two campaigns are aligned, and that's something we're very happy about."
Sarah Cowley stated that "Calvià and the Balearic Islands have been a favourite destination for Britons for decades, and it's no wonder. The campaign seeks to highlight that to have the best experience in this welcoming land, it's essential that visitors stay with their companions and look out for each other." "By agreeing on a meeting point before leaving or sharing your location live, the chances of anything going wrong are drastically reduced," she concluded.
