Calvià Town Hall and the business community join forces to combat school dropout through the PISE programme.

  • Eleven local companies are participating altruistically in this socio-educational intervention programme that combines academic training with work experience
  • 78 percent of participating students are integrated into companies in the private sector, acquiring key skills for their professional future
  • The investment by the Town Hall and the IMEB is 52.000€ per academic year

Calvià Town Hall, through the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries (IMEB), held a meeting this Monday with the companies collaborating on the Socio-Educational Intervention Programme (PISE). The event, which took place in the Plenary Hall, served to recognise the fundamental work of the companies that participate selflessly in the training of young secondary school students under 16 years of age. The investment by the Town Hall and the IMEB is 52.000€ per academic year.

After a period of interruption, the current governing team has committed to the strategic reactivation of the PISE programme for the 2025/2026 academic year. This programme is a key tool in combating early school leaving, allowing young people to maintain their connection with formal education while entering the workforce.

"This invisible work of the companies is what guarantees that students are prepared to take advantage of the opportunity offered to them," stated the Mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, who chaired the meeting and thanked those present for their work and commitment.

A methodology based on practical experience

PISE success lies in its dual methodology: students attend their educational centre (IES Son Ferrer or IES Bendinat) two days a week and work at partner companies three days a week. This structure allows students to: regain their motivation for studying through real-world experience; develop essential skills such as punctuality, responsibility, and teamwork; and facilitate the transition to Basic Vocational Training (FP) programmes.

Selfless corporate commitment

Currently, the programme has the collaboration of 11 entities, with a significant presence from the private sector (78 percent). Companies such as Seafix 2.0 SL, Magaluf Sport Club, Ocibar S.A., Liberty Sport, Calzados Inka, and Tentaciones Delicias Caseras, amongst others, contribute their facilities and the time of their employees to mentor these young people without receiving any financial compensation.

The programme closely monitors each student, adapting the itinerary to their personal and social circumstances, acting as a safety net that guarantees the success of the pedagogical process.

2025/2026 academic year data

As of today, the programme has a total of 12 students, 9 of whom continue with excellent academic performance. The socio-labour impact is divided between the public sector (22%), with internships in municipal services such as preschools and youth centres, and the private sector (78%), comprised of local SMEs from diverse sectors such as boating, sports, hospitality, and retail.

Looking ahead to the 2026/2027 academic year, the Town Hall and the Regional Ministry of Education reaffirm their commitment to continue strengthening this tool for the development and growth of young people in Calvià.
