El Rocío Festival returns to Calvià and celebrates its 38th anniversary. The fair is held in Santa Ponça this weekend, from 19th to 21st June. It is an event organized by the Casa de Andalucía de Calvià with the subsidy and support of Calvià Town Hall. This year it will be held in the Jaume I car park in Santa Ponça.
This Monday, a delegation from the Casa de Andalucía de Calvià, headed by its president, Manolo Barné, was welcomed at the Town Hall by Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual and First Deputy Mayor Esperanza Catalá. Both parties celebrated the continued success of the festival, which attracts new generations each year, ensuring its continuity. The Town Hall is contributing a grant to the association and a range of services totaling over 20.000€.
The celebrations will begin on Friday, 19th June at 7:30 p.m. with the procession of the Virgin from Santa Ponça church to the aforementioned Jaume I car park.
Upon arrival, the evening will feature a packed programme of artistic performances, including the Casa de Andalucía de Calvià dance group at 8:00 p.m., the Jessica Blanco dance group at 9:00 p.m., the musical group Jaleo at 10:00 p.m., and the closing performance by the Voces del Pueblo musical group at 11:30 p.m.
The events on Saturday, 20th June will begin in the morning, specifically at 10:00 a.m., with the traditional pilgrimage from Santa Ponça to Son Ferrer. The musical and folkloric activities will resume at 8:00 p.m. with a performance by the Aires de Azahar de Son Cotoner dance group, followed at 9:00 p.m. by the Alma Flamenca dance group. The evening's musical offerings will continue with a performance by the Isla Graná group at 10:00 p.m. and another performance by the Voces del Pueblo group at 11:30 p.m. to close the evening.
Sunday, 21st June, will mark the end of the festivities with a programme beginning at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by the Flamencura dance group. At 8:00 p.m., one of the main events of the celebrations, the Rociera Mass, will take place. Once the religious service concludes, the farewell musical programme will feature the Voces del Pueblo group at 9:30 p.m. and will conclude with a performance by the Oxalis group at 10:30 p.m.
