Calvià Town Hall is launching the fifth edition of the Ilumina Calvià 2024 Christmas decoration competition, with the aim of filling the streets of the municipality with a festive spirit, encouraging local creativity and strengthening social ties at this special time. This competition is designed for all residents who wish to participate by decorating their facades, balconies, windows, doors or gardens visible from the public road.
The Ilumina Calvià 2024 competition seeks to create a Christmas atmosphere that reinforces the festive identity of the municipality, encourage citizen participation in the embellishment of the streets during the holidays, encourage the creativity of the residents and boost social interaction. In short, the objective is to strengthen the social and neighbourhood fabric of the municipality, promoting a community spirit.

Any natural person residing in Calvià who decorates elements visible from the public space of their home can participate in this competition. Commercial establishments are excluded from the competition.

The theme of the decorations must be related to Christmas and its traditions, leaving participants complete freedom in terms of technique and style. However, several conditions must be met, such as not using dangerous elements, such as fire, fireworks or flammable materials; respecting street furniture and ensuring road safety; and not include advertising or commercial slogans, except for the official name of the competition, Ilumina Calvià.
The registration period begins on Saturday 7th December and does not end until Tuesday 17th December. Those interested must complete a form on the Town Hall's website, including a photograph of the decoration.
Likewise, the decorations must be visible from 17th December 2024 to Tuesday 7th January 2025.

The competition will have two voting methods: the popular one on social networks and the one evaluated by a specialised jury. The popular vote decides the prizes by area. The photos of the decorations will be published in a Facebook album of the Calvià Town Hall. The interactions will determine the winners. Two prizes will be awarded for each of the 14 areas of the municipality: a first prize of €300 and a second prize of €120.
On the other hand, there are the special prizes, which are evaluated by a jury that will analyse aspects such as creativity, originality, use of recycled materials and general aesthetics to award two special prizes. The first special prize will be €600 and the second €400.
These prizes will be incompatible with the zone prizes; if a participant obtains both, the zone prize will be awarded to the next classified.

The municipality of Calvià is divided into 14 areas: Calvià village, Es Capdellà, El Toro, Son Ferrer, Galatzó, Santa Ponça - Costa de la Calma, Magaluf - Sa Porrasa, Cala Vinyes - Badia de Palma - Portals Vells - Sol de Mallorca, Peguera - Cala Fornells, Palmanova, Son Caliu, Ses Illetes - Cas Català, Costa d'en Blanes, and Bendinat - Portals Nous.

The results will be announced between Saturday 28th December 2024 and Saturday 4th January 2025. The winners must attend the awards ceremony, which will take place during the Three Kings' Parade on Sunday 5th January 2025.

Registration implies acceptance of the terms and conditions of the competition. Participants assign the rights of the images submitted to the Town Hall for non-commercial dissemination. In addition, the council is committed to guarantee data protection in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679.

With initiatives like this, Calvià is committed to an inclusive and participatory Christmas spirit, encouraging all its residents to light up and embellish the municipality during these special dates. Don't be left out and show your creativity to the world!
