- Calvià takes another step in the project to connect children, young people, and seniors in the municipality
- Students from CEIP Ses Quarterades and Llar de Calvià participated
First day of the intergenerational project that connects the users of Llar de Calvià with the students of CEIP Ses Quarterades. The meeting—held this Wednesday in Plaça Collidores d'Olives in Calvià village—has reinforced the municipality's commitment to intergenerational policies as a driver of social cohesion. Twelve seniors from Llar de Calvià and 35 students from 5th (18 participants) and 6th (17 participants) of CEIP Ses Quarterades participated. It has been promoted by the IMEB (Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries) in collaboration with other municipal departments.
These knowledge and learning policies between seniors and young people aim to create a network of mutual support and the transfer of values essential to the municipality's identity. The participants from the Llar de Calvià shared their experience, while the students contributed their vitality and curiosity, demonstrating that age is a bridge, not a barrier.
"What we are starting today," Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual told the students, "is the beginning of something very important, the relationship between two generations from which something very beautiful will emerge. You can return to the Llar, as can your classmates from other courses." "We will take your example."
Similar initiatives have already been carried out at Es Generador—the youth centre in the municipality—and at the Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park Museum in Santa Ponça.
Fina Riera, a psychologist at the Llar, emphasised how these gatherings benefit the residents: "Children's activities, movement activities... All of these bring them happiness. They can remember stages of their lives and share memories and experiences."
The day concluded with a traditional buñolada (a traditional fritter-making event), an informal gathering that allowed for the exchange of anecdotes and laughter between grandparents and their one-day grandchildren.
