- The Consell de Mallorca and the Town Hall collaborate on projects in Puig de sa Morisca, Peguera, and the modernisation of the tourist offices
The regional councillor for Tourism of the Consell de Mallorca, Guillem Ginard, continued his tour of municipalities on Wednesday, which began last week, with the aim of gaining firsthand knowledge of the tourism needs and perspectives of the island's municipalities. He was welcomed in Calvià by Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual, Deputy Mayor for Tourism Elisa Monserrat, and other members of the municipal government. Also present were the Island Director of Tourism for Governance and Sustainability, Pedro Mas, and the Island Director for Supply and Quality, Clara del Moral. During the morning, they visited the Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park (Santa Ponça) and met with hotel associations in the municipality.
More than 1.5 million € in tourism improvement projects
One of the main topics discussed was the investment of more than 1.5 million € in tourism improvement projects being carried out in the municipality with funds from the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca).
Currently, two projects financed with the Consell de Mallorca's own funds (CBAT) are underway: the work at the Puig de na Morisca Archaeological Park; and the improvements to the Peguera Boulevard. The municipality will also allocate part of the Consell's subsidies for 2025 and 2026 to the renovation and modernisation of the Calvià Tourist Offices.
Puig de na Morisca
The Puig de na Morisca Archaeological Park is a green space of more than 35 hectares that houses one of the most significant concentrations of archaeological sites spanning more than 3.000 years of history. The site houses the museum and research complex, archaeological sites, and multidisciplinary spaces. A Foundation has been established to manage the Archaeological Park, comprised of the Calvià Town Hall, the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Island Council of Mallorca, and the University of the Balearic Islands, to coordinate actions related to the protection, research, conservation, and promotion of the site.
Intensive work is underway to expand the Archaeological Park's offerings beyond its conservation and research functions, opening up spaces for public outreach and community engagement, as well as improving the extensive network of accessible trails.
First meeting with Calvià hoteliers
The Regional Minister of Tourism took advantage of his visit to the municipality to meet with representatives from various hotel associations in the municipality to learn about their concerns and potential needs in anticipation of the upcoming tourist season.
