Return to classrooms in Calvià marked by the return of PISE, with new opportunities for students.

  • The Local Police have activated the usual operation, and no incidents have been reported
  • The PISE, which stopped in 2009, returns with a renewed format
  • The programme offers a different way of learning, and connects young people with the real world

Calvià students have returned to the classrooms on a day characterised by normality in which there have been no incidents to highlight. Calvià Local Police officers have controlled access to schools and coordinated the flow of students and traffic in the vicinity.

The 2025-2026 school year has begun in Calvià, marked by the return of the PISE (Socio-Educational Intervention Programme), a programme for young people experiencing difficulties at school that will be implemented at the IES Son Ferrer and the IES Bendinat.

This programme is designed for young people under 16 years of age who are experiencing difficulties at high school: absenteeism, adaptation difficulties, or at risk of dropping out. The PISE offers them a different way of learning, combining classes with practical workshops and real-life experiences in the workplace. In other words, students not only study, but also participate in activities related to various trades and professions.

In addition to classes and workshops, the PISE emphasises other important aspects such as working on emotions, learning to live together, gaining confidence, and building relationships. Families also play a fundamental role, because their involvement is key. The PISE offers new opportunities and is a way to demonstrate that education is not just about sitting in a classroom, but also includes living experiences in order to find new paths for the future.

All of this is possible thanks to an agreement between the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities, Calvià Town Hall, and the IMEB (Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries), which allocate 52.000 € each year to the programme's development. Agreements are planned with local companies and entities that offer practical training spaces, essential for young people to develop professional skills in real and motivating contexts.

The PISE is not new: it began in 2005 with just six students and grew to include all three secondary schools in the municipality. In that initial phase, gardening and carpentry workshops were held, as well as activities at the Galatzó Public Estate, all combining learning and teamwork. The programme was stopped in 2009.
