FLEM has announced the programme for its sixth edition, which will be held from October 1 to 4 in Magaluf, bringing together more than thirty writers, as well as musicians, artists, journalists, and creators from various disciplines.
The FLEM (Magaluf's Literary Festival)—an initiative of the independent bookstore Rata Corner and INNSiDE by Meliá—returns for another year with the aim of bringing books and culture to new audiences, breaking down boundaries between disciplines, and transforming Magaluf into a major hub for literature over the course of four days.
This edition will also be marked by a significant change: FLEM is moving to INNSiDE Wave Calvià, a new location from which the festival will continue to explore new ways of connecting literature, music, ideas, contemporary art, and popular culture.
Among the major international names, the presence of American writer Anna Todd stands out; a global publishing phenomenon and author of the After saga, she will make her only appearance in Spain at FLEM. Todd will also visit an island with a special connection to her most recent work, Sunrise (published this year and set in Mallorca).
At FLEM will also make her only visit to Spain the German-Afghan writer and poet Aria Aber—a rising voice in international literature following the publication of Good Girl. Joining them are British author Anna Hope (Albion); French writer David Foenkinos, one of the most widely read and translated contemporary French authors; British writer and journalist Lara Pawson; and British writer Ben Brooks.
The lineup of Spanish talent once again brings together diverse backgrounds, genres, and audiences—a hallmark of FLEM. Participants include Elísabet Benavent, Alicia Giménez Bartlett, Juan Luis Arsuaga, Rodrigo Cortés, Carlos Bardem, Marcos Giralt Torrente, Nerea Pérez de las Heras, Daniel Verdú, Leticia Sala, Rayden, Desirée de Fez, Natza Farré, Raquel Congosto, and Luis Mario, among others.
Also appearing in Magaluf will be Eduard Sola—winner of the Goya Award for Best Original Screenplay for 'Casa en flames' and a leading figure in contemporary Spanish screenwriting—as well as Ana Garriga and Carmen Urbita. The latter two are researchers and creators of 'Las Hijas de Felipe', one of today’s most recognizable history-focused podcasts, and authors of the 2026 release 'Instrucción de novicias. Vidas del convento barroco para guiar tu presente'.
FLEM will once again highlight voices from the Balearic Islands and foster dialogue between different generations of authors. Participants include Gabriel Janer Manila, Biel Mesquida, Aina Fullana, Laura Gost, Olivia Lund, Joan Miquel Oliver, and Jaume Oliver, in an edition that champions island-based creativity within a programme of national and international scope.
The interplay between established authors, new voices, publishing sensations, cult writers, popularizers, and creators from other fields once again defines a programme that seeks to broaden the concept of what a literary festival can be.
MUCH MORE THAN LITERATURE
As is customary, literary conversations will be just one part of a programme that once again expands into music, art, podcasts, and new performance formats.
A major highlight will be the appearance of Rodrigo Cuevas—winner of the National Award for Contemporary Music—who brings Al pie del llar to Magaluf. This intimate performance blends tradition, music, and the spoken word.
Tiu will also perform, while Maria Hein will provide the music for the FLEM opening event on Thursday, October 1st. The lineup also includes Joan Alcover, la paraula viva, a production by Tallats de Lluna that revives the words and work of the Majorcan writer, bringing them into the present day.
Events will also include a Literary Karaoke session and a Murdoku Tournament. Additionally, Quadernit—the quiz created by the team behind Blackie Books’ 'Cuaderno de verano para adultos'—returns, having already become a festival classic.
One of this edition's special projects is BATALLAR, a "techno-recital" conceived as a tribute to Biel Mesquida, where poetry, music, and electronic sounds converge through the work of Clara Fiol and GŸE.
Podcasts will once again feature prominently on the "Travel to Zero" stage, hosting various live formats. These include Club Tàndem—the 3Cat multi-platform programme hosted by Juliana Canet and Marina Porras—which introduces new generations to Catalan literary classics by connecting them with TV series, cinema, music, and personal experiences. Mucho Texto and Guarida y Tapete will also take the stage, reinforcing a programme that seeks to link books with new forms of conversation, cultural outreach, and creative expression.
ART RETURNS TO THE SECRET ROOMS
The Secret Rooms—one of the festival's most recognizable and innovative features—will return in 2026, transforming guest rooms and other nooks within the INNSiDE Wave Calvià hotel into art installations, interventions, and immersive experiences.
This edition will feature works by Boa Mistura, Lyona, Tamara K. Lloyd Cox, and Belén Segarra, among other artists. Nil Marqués will also participate, bringing his work as a tattoo artist to the festival with a Flash Day Tattoo event specifically themed around the world of literature.
For the second consecutive year, FLEM will collaborate with the Fundació Miró Mallorca. Under the title MIRÓ EFÍMER and taking Joan Miró’s own ephemeral interventions as a starting point—each day of the festival will offer the chance to discover an installation by a contemporary artist, created to exist for a limited time.
Bel Fullana, Albert Pinya, and Laia Ventayol will engage in a dialogue—through contemporary creative work—with Miró’s experimental, free, and ephemeral spirit.
Music will play throughout the festival at the LoMusic stage, featuring sets by DJ Cobie, Aina Losange, Som Vinils, Jimena Grock, and Biel Bibiloni, among others.
DISCOVERING A DIFFERENT MAGALUF
Magaluf remains much more than just the venue for FLEM. The festival will once again include activities that invite visitors to explore and view the destination from new perspectives.
The tour of Magaluf’s graphic and typographic heritage, led by Rotuïlla, will return; it offers a look at the signage, typefaces, and visual elements that form part of the destination's collective memory.
Historians Tomeu Canyelles and Biel Vives will lead another tour focusing on the history and transformation of Magaluf over the decades.
An activity organized in partnership with Cruz Roja will also explore Magaluf’s wetlands and natural surroundings, highlighting an environmental heritage that is often overshadowed by the destination's tourism-focused image.
These offerings will be complemented by other activities scheduled throughout the four-day festival.
FLEM-MAGALUF NOVEL PRIZE
The sixth edition of FLEM marks a step beyond the festival's standard programming with the creation of the FLEM-Magaluf Novel Prize, a new initiative designed to discover, promote, and support emerging literary voices.
The prize includes a 10.000€ award, publication of the winning work by Reservoir Books, and a promotional tour across various cities in the country. This offers the winning author not only financial and editorial backing but also the opportunity to introduce their work to new readers.
The first call for entries attracted over 170 manuscripts; the winning work will be announced during the opening ceremony on Thursday, October 1st, an event that will also feature a musical performance by Maria Hein.
The FLEM-Magaluf Novel Prize is the result of a collaboration between FLEM, Penguin Random House, and Calvià Town Hall (through ITS Sustainable Tourism Tax funds). It reinforces the festival's commitment to extending its activities beyond the four-day schedule, allowing it to play a direct role in the creation, publication, and dissemination of new literary works.
LITERARY RESIDENCIES IN MAGALUF
In keeping with this vision, FLEM is launching a literary residency programme this year, designed to allow authors to spend several days developing their creative work in Magaluf before participating in the festival itself.
This first edition will host Mar Picó and Amani Saeed, underscoring FLEM’s aim to become not merely a venue for showcasing work and fostering encounters, but also a hub for literary creation, exchange, and experimentation.
Together, the Novel Prize and the residency programme enable the project to expand beyond the four-day festival schedule, forging new connections between writers, readers, and the local area.
FLEM PRO: CONNECTING THE SECTOR AND SHARING NEW WAYS TO PROMOTE READING
On the morning of Friday, October 2, a new edition of the FLEM Professional Days will take place—an event aimed at authors, publishers, booksellers, cultural agents, and other professionals linked to the world of books and culture.
The event was created with the aim of fostering connections and synergies among professionals, encouraging the exchange of experiences, and providing a space to learn about initiatives that are expanding literary audiences and taking books beyond their traditional settings.
A key feature will be a showcase of reading promotion projects, where various initiatives can present and share their experiences, discover other projects, and generate new avenues for collaboration.
In this way, FLEM aims to serve—for one morning—as a meeting point for the sector, connecting authors, publishers, and cultural agents while fostering relationships that extend beyond the festival itself.
FULL PROGRAMME AND REGISTRATION
The full programme, organized by day and time, will be announced on Tuesday, September 15, via the festival’s website and channels.
Registration for activities requiring advance booking will open on Thursday, September 17.
Over four days—from October 1 to 4—FLEM will once again fill Magaluf with books, conversations, concerts, art, podcasts, and unexpected offerings. This sixth edition debuts a new venue and, once again, expands the boundaries of literature.
INNSIDE BY MELIÁ AND MAGALUF'S TRANSFORMATION
FLEM is also part of Meliá Hotels International’s commitment to transforming Magaluf. For over a decade, the company has been driving a renewal process in the destination—in collaboration with public authorities and other private stakeholders—focused on improving the tourism offering, ensuring sustainability, and introducing new experiences linked to culture, gastronomy, and quality leisure.
The collaboration with Rata Corner and the consolidation of FLEM are part of a drive to create new reasons to visit Magaluf, connect the destination with local residents, and demonstrate that culture can also play an active role in its transformation.
