Amongst other improvements, the irrigation system has been modernised, the delimitation of the gardens and a new security system has been installed
Calvià Town Hall has reopened the Son Ferrer Urban Garden after the completion of a series of improvements designed to optimise the functionality, security and comfort of this community space. The opening ceremony, headed by Manuel Mas, deputy mayor for Rural World, and José Ignacio Lajo, general manager of Rural World, was attended by the users who have seen first-hand the work carried out. Over the last two months, the Calvià Training and Employment Institute (IFOC) and the municipal Environment department have worked together on an improvement plan that directly responds to the needs raised by users. The main actions include:
- Modernisation of the irrigation system: Renewal of the pipelines and replacement of pipes, together with the installation of new water intake posts at a more accessible height. This makes the system easier to use and improves its efficiency.
- Delimitation of plots: The spaces have been clearly marked by incorporating imitation sandstone pieces, achieving a more practical and visually ordered distribution.
- Improvements to the natural environment: Installation of an insect hotel to encourage pollination, and planting of four mulberry trees that will provide shade in the common areas, especially in the summer months.
- Reinforcement of infrastructure: Waterproofing of the pergola and reinforcement of the plots' edges to prevent the loss of soil during heavy rains.
- Increased security: Implementation of an alert system for the accesses, and renewal of the entrance padlock.
The Town Hall has expressed its gratitude to all the staff involved in carrying out these improvements, highlighting that these actions reinforce the municipal commitment to sustainable development and the promotion of natural spaces that encourage neighbourly coexistence.
