Thirty young people from Calvià and Portugal will participate in the Erasmus+ Cultura Viva project during the Rei en Jaume festivities.
  • The exchange will bring together 15 young people from Calvià and 15 from Moura, aged between 14 and 16, to share a week of coexistence, intercultural learning, and participation in the Rei en Jaume celebrations

This is a new step in the Erasmus+ Cultura Viva programme, in which young people from Calvià and other parts of Europe live together and exchange experiences and knowledge. This time, 30 young people aged between 14 and 16 will participate: 15 from Calvià and 15 from the Portuguese municipality of Moura. The group will also include two chaperones from Moura and four youth information officers from Calvià Town Hall's Youth Service, who will be responsible for accompanying and facilitating the activities. The project has received a grant of 27.215€ from the European Union's Erasmus+ programme.

Cultura Viva aims to foster gatherings and interaction between young people from both municipalities, promote knowledge of their respective cultures, and reinforce values such as participation, European citizenship, respect, cooperation, and intercultural learning through non-formal education methodologies.

The Portuguese group will be hosted between 28th August and 6th September. During these days, participants will share a wide range of cultural, educational, environmental, sporting, and healthy leisure activities in different locations in Calvià and Mallorca.

The programme will include knowledge and teamwork sessions at Es Generador municipal youth centre, a bivouac at the Galatzó public estate, a stay at S’Estanyol summer camp, workshops on Spanish and Portuguese popular games, siurell making, activities on Sa Ràpita beach, and cultural visits to Valldemossa, Sóller, Sa Foradada, Puig de sa Morisca, Bellver Castle, and Palma.

The exchange will also allow young people to learn about the Mallorcan heritage and traditions through workshops on ball de bot and xeremies (traditional dance and music), cultural evenings dedicated to Spain and Portugal, and joint participation in the Festes del Rei en Jaume parades as members of the Colla de Joventut (Youth Group).

Throughout the week, the young people will participate in mixed groups called family groups, where they will share their experiences. They will evaluate the activities carried out and propose improvements. This methodology will foster coexistence, active participation, communication between groups, and shared learning.
