Veteran businesspeople collaborate with Calvià in training and mentoring entrepreneurs and businesses in the municipality.

  • The annual agreement between IFOC and SECOT is renewed and a  commitment is made to viable entrepreneurial initiatives, support for small local businesses, and sustainable economic development

Calvià Town Hall and the Spanish Seniors Association for Technical Cooperation (SECOT Balears) renewed their collaboration agreement this Wednesday, which supports a comprehensive awareness, training, and mentoring programme for entrepreneurs and businesses in the municipality. The collaboration between both institutions dates back to 2020. Last year, the continuation of the joint project was established through four-year renewals. The renewal was signed by the Mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, and the President of SECOT Balears, Ignacio Miranda Larrucea.

The bridge between the Town Hall and SECOT was established by the Training and Employment Institute of Calvià (IFOC). SECOT Balears contributes the experience of its volunteers to the programme. These are seasoned professionals from various economic sectors who, after retiring from active careers, contribute to business development by offering their services free of charge. The agreement thus channels the commitment of both institutions to foster viable entrepreneurial initiatives, support local small businesses, and contribute to the sustainable economic development of the municipality of Calvià.

As a fundamental part of this agreement, entrepreneurship will be promoted through the "Generate a Winning Business Model" initiative, developed in collaboration with IFOC. This activity is primarily aimed at students in Vocational Training programmes in the municipality, enabling them to develop entrepreneurial attitudes and skills.

Furthermore, a comprehensive training programme is offered, covering critical areas of business success, such as an introduction to Canvas, business model creation, legal and tax aspects of business, and the most common mistakes entrepreneurs make. This itinerary complements the initial group mentoring sessions offered by IFOC.

The programme fosters local talent through SECOT's active participation in key events such as Demo Day and the Calvià Emprèn final. At these competitions, experts from the organisation will contribute their experience as judges and mentors, validating innovative projects.

Furthermore, continuous support is guaranteed through personalised consulting and mentoring services, aimed at entrepreneurs referred by IFOC, ensuring that each project has the necessary technical support for its consolidation.
