SA RUA IN CALVIA
Sa Rua is the most important act celebrated in Calvia at Carnival time.
It takes place on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday and consists of a colourful parade where people of all ages get together and dress up in fancy dress either individually, in couples, or in groups and parade through the streets on floats or walking.
The concentration takes place at the ses Quarterades school between 16.00 and 16.30, then the participants parade through the central streets carrer Major, avinguda de Palma, carrer Julià Bujosa Sans, Batle, to the car park at the Town Hall, where the prizes for the different established modules are presented, followed by a party with barbecues, fireworks and music...
Each year Sa Rua thas a different theme.This is important because a special prize is given for the costume that most reflects the theme of sa Rua.
The rules of Sa Rua are published on the web page and you can also find them in the municipal departments at the Town Hall.
All the citizens of Calvia and any other area can take part in sa Rua Calvia: Children, teenagers and adults alike.
