The tournament expects to receive around 70 participants from a dozen countries, which is the maximum possible to maintain safe distances.
The event's main novelty will be the anticovid measures, amongst which are the mandatory use of a face mask, a temperature control at the entrances to the room, hydroalcoholic gel available to the participants and a minimum distance of 1.5 metres between boards. Furthermore, only players with a game in progress and the organising team may remain in the game room. On the other hand, QR codes will be generated to provide information on the tournament.
Another novelty for this year is that two of the parallel activities that have been held in previous editions, the U16 International Team Tournament and the Blitz tournament (fast chess), this year will be held online through the Lichess platform.
The event's closing and the awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 18th October at 3 p.m. Calvià International Chess Festival is an event organised by the Mallorca Isolani Chess Club and which has the support of both, Fundación Calvià and Calvià Town Hall, and is part of the sports activities that are organised with the aim of offering products that extend the season.
