Calvià already celebrates Saint George
The mayor highlights the ties that unite the English and British community with the municipality
Until Saturday, multiple sports, cultural, musical and gastronomic activities will take place
With the performance of the choir from the British International College of Magaluf, this Tuesday the celebrations for Saint George began in Calvià, a festival that aims to strengthen the ties between the local and English communities, with a strong presence in the municipality.
The mayor, Juan Antonio Amengual, has highlighted the importance of festivities in the local calendar, such as Saint Patrick, the Valencian Fallas or El Rocío, making Calvià a more cosmopolitan and open place. “It is not about cornering other celebrations, but about adding,” highlighted the mayor of the Town Hall that this year has also increased the budget for Book Day by 10%.
The British vice consul in the Balearic Islands, Rachel Watkins, took part in the presentation event, which took place in the Plenary Room and not on the Passeig de la Mar in Palmanova due to the weather conditions.
Amongst the attendees was also the Executive Councillor for Tourism of the Consell, Marcial Rodríguez, who congratulated Calvià for launching this celebration, which will run until Saturday and includes concerts, sports on the beach, gastronomy, children's activities and much more.
