Càsina, by T.M. Plauto
Association: Associació d'Amants del Teatre TeatrEROS

Càsina is a play written by Plauto, most probably in 187 B.C. It is about the love rivalry relationship between father and son, where the father, Lisídamo, is presented as an old libidinous. The play has two differentiated parts: the first one is about Cásina, which gives name to the original Greek title (Clerumenoe) and the second one is the replacement of the girlfriend with the slave Calinus.
Cásina is one of the last written comedies by Plauto and, therefore, is considered one of the comedies which best reflects the art of its author. The mess created deliberately about Càsina and her later position, gives way to explore the current humorous characteristics, typical of the comedies of all times, and which demonstrate Plauto´s ability within this field.
