Calvià and the Regional Ministry of Education support and train secondary school students at risk of educational and social exclusion.

  • The PISE programme restarts in three secondary schools in the municipality for the next academic year
  • The commitment is to link education, social action, family involvement and labour insertion

The PISE programme (Socio-Educational Intervention Programme) is being launched again in the municipality of Calvià in the 2025/2026 academic year, and is being offered to the following centres: IES Calvià, IES Son Ferrer and IES Bendinat. The reactivation has been possible thanks to the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities, Calvià Town Hall and the Calvià Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries (IMEB).

The objective of the PISE programme is to offer a real educational alternative to students at risk of school and social exclusion. It is aimed at secondary school students under 16 years of age who experience school absenteeism, difficulties adapting to the school environment or are at risk of dropping out of school. Academic support is combined with experiences in real-life work environments, seeking to motivate students and facilitate their continued participation in the education system.

The Town Hall and IMEB are investing 52.000 € per academic year.

The programme includes signing agreements with local companies and entities that offer practical training spaces, essential for young people to develop professional skills in real-life and motivating contexts.

With this new phase of PISE, Calvià reaffirms its commitment to inclusive, adapted, and transformative education, aimed at those who need it most. A model that intertwines education, social action, family involvement, and labour insertion, and which returns to offer opportunities. The mayor of the municipality, Juan Antonio Amengual, expressed his gratitude for the agreement signed with Regional Minister Toni Vera: "We are renewing the agreement for an insertion programme that was on hold and that had proven its success. It will begin at the Bendinat and Son Ferrer secondary schools and then in Calvià. "It is important to support students who need it, and it will be very positive for them."

Vera explained that "we support students with a very specific profile who need to enter a more professional and technical world. This helps us fight against early school dropout rates. We are grateful to Calvià Town Hall and the collaborating secondary schools for being able to develop the PISE programme."

PISE was launched in Calvià in the 2005/2006 academic year at Calvià Secondary School, with six students participating. In subsequent years, IES Son Ferrer Secondary School (2006/2007) and IES Bendinat Secondary School (2008/2009) joined the programme, reaching a total of 18 students. The project, initially focused on gardening, evolved into carpentry workshops and environmental and cultural activities held at the Galatzó Public Estate. After five academic years, the programme was discontinued in 2009.
