On Friday, September 26, the 4th Day of Older Persons organised by Calvià Town Hall will take place. The day celebrates the International Day of Older Persons, which the United Nations commemorates every October 1 since 1990. The aim of this annual event is to raise public awareness about the role and needs of the elderly, promote their active participation and jointly address current issues that impact their well-being. At the same time, the aim is to maintain a community meeting space to celebrate the day dedicated to the elderly in the municipality.

This year the day is dedicated to reflection and debate on the Municipality and age-friendly environments. Calvià has been a member of the World Health Organization's Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Municipalities since 2023. This network emerged in response to the rapid aging of the population and aims to connect cities, municipalities, and organisations around the world with the shared vision of making their environment a better place for aging with dignity and quality.

The event on September 26 is aimed at the elderly of Calvià and professional staff. The presentation "Promoviendo la amigabilidad desde la ciudadanía activa de la gente mayor" (Promoting friendliness through senior citizens active citizenship) will be given by Elena del Barri, PhD in Health Sciences, sociologist and director of policies and social contexts at the Fundación Matia Instituto.

At the roundtable "Red de Ciudades Amigables. Buenas prácticas y propuestas" (Friendly Cities Network. Good practices and proposals) will take part: María Lis Contreras, coordinator of the Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in Spain of the IMSERSO; Biel Horrach, municipal architect of Calvià Town Hall's Roads and Works Service; Elena del Barrio, sociologist and doctor in Health Sciences from the Fundación Matia Instituto.

The roundtable will be moderated by Cristina Gamundí, Social Intervention and Elderly Persons Technician at Calvià Town Hall.

The day will close with the recreational activity "Cuando saludas, ¿salud das?" (When you greet, do you give health?) led by Juan Carlos Muntaner.
