Workers of Calvià 2000 and their families - up to a total of 250 people - celebrated today the 30th anniversary of the company, in a barbecue organised in the Casal de Peguera that has involved the participation of four groups in which people from Calvià 2000-The Grandpas, Black Velvet, Piedra de Toque and The New Forties- and another external guest, Som Rock, have performed. All have decided to act for the benefit of Médecins Sans Frontières.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez, who on this day has accompanied the more than 250 people, including employees, former workers and family members concentrated in Peguera, thanked the work carried out every day by the people of Calvià 2000 in the cleaning and the sustainability of the municipality.

Agility and efficiency in the services

It was in June 1987 when the consistory that governed at that time decided to create a limited company, 100% municipal capital, that would allow to provide citizens with services whose implementation would require greater agility and flexibility in management.

A year later, the Plenary was entrusting to the company other basic services for the municipality, such as the collection of solid urban waste, street cleaning, and sewerage and purification. This increase in activity, in parallel with a constant increase in the population of Calvià, led to a growth in the workforce of the company, both through the incorporation of employees of the Town Hall and through new contracts.

At present, the municipal company has 270 permanent workers, and around 80 eventual workers who reinforce the workforce during the summer season. Most of them (64%) provide service in the environmental maintenance department (waste collection and road cleaning); 23% in the department of the water cycle (sanitation and purification); and 13% in administration.

In addition, Calvià 2000 manages four treatment plants, 238,000 metres of sanitation networks and 92,000 metres of
rainwater collectors, purifies a flow of 7 million of cubic metres per year and regenerates 170,000 cubic metres of water to irrigate the Paseo de Calvià.

Amongst the improvement objectives for this year are highlighted the rethinking of routes and frequencies to increase the efficiency of street cleaning, the Deixalleria refurbishment, the refurbishment of the purification facilities, the renovation of the sanitation network to eliminate black spots, the implementation of communication and education campaigns to increase recycling and promote respectful habits with the environment.
