Restoration actions at the Galatzó public estate

Calvià, 8th January 2018

RECOVERY OF ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS OF THE HOUSE IN THE PUBLIC ESTATE OF GALATZÓ

The Town Hall of Calvià has carried out a series of recovery and restoration actions on the main façade of the house in Galatzó, replacing shutters and traditional type windows, improving the 'possessió' both from an aesthetic and functional point of view, and with the aim of preserving the building from humidity problems.
These actions are included in a project of recovery of ethnological and architectural elements with heritage values that the Town Hall presented to the public announcement of subsidies of the Serra de Tramuntana Patrimoni Mundial Consortium, in May 2017, that also include -as already reported- improvements in the hydraulic system at the Galatzó farm, which consisted in the cleaning, repairs and waterproofing of both the water tank of the houses and the outside water tank of the public estate.
With the intervention carried out on the house, the objectives have been reached: to avoid the risk of humidity due to rain leaks in the structure of the main building; closing of holes that allowed pigeons getting in, with the consequent problems of corrosion that these animals generate in the building structure, in addition to problems of aesthetic and hygienic nature; and the restitution of the original configuration of the house façade.
A total of 16 shutters, 9 windows and 3 doors have been replaced at a cost of 25,836.01 euros. Of this total cost, the Serra de Tramuntana Patrimoni Mundial Consortium has granted the Calvià Town Hall with 21,959.88 euros, which represents 85% of the total.
