Meeting at the Regional Ministry for Tourism

 Thursday 1st February 2018

MEETING OF THE MAYOR OF CALVIÀ AND THE VICE PRESIDENT AND REGIONAL MINISTER FOR TOURISM

The Mayor reiterates the need for the regulation of the all-inclusive and the Regional Minister shows her predisposition to the contributions of Calvià, such as the regulation of alcohol in this type of offer

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the vice-president and regional minister for Innovation, Research and Tourism, Bel Busquets, met this morning in a first contact after her appointment, to take up the pending issues related to the municipality.

One of the issues that has been discussed is the regulation of the all-inclusive, a claim that the Town Hall has put on the table since the beginning of the legislature. The Mayor has reiterated the need, that Calvià has been claiming, that within the framework of this regulation is limited, also, the consumption of alcohol, that is to say, that alcohol is removed from the all-inclusive restricting it exclusively to meals. Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has expressed his satisfaction on this point given the Counsellor's willingness that Calvià makes contributions to her department's team that is working on this regulation.

In addition, they have reviewed the scheduling of the projects for the municipality of Calvià from the tourist beds reserve, specifically the two projects submitted to the Consortium, and which will involve an investment of 2 million euros, 50% provided by the Consortium and 50% by the Town Hall. This is the remodeling project of the Gran Vía Puig des Teix in Santa Ponça, and a project for embellishing and rearranging the streets and green areas of Paris and Germans Pinzón streets in Palmanova. The forecast is that the actions - which are currently in the process of drafting the projects - can be launched after the tourist season.

Finally they have addressed aspects of the presence of Calvià and each of the tourist areas of the municipality in the tourism promotion, facing the fairs and promotions to take place. Calvià is, with nearly 60,000 hotel beds, the largest tourist municipality in the Balearic Islands.

Also, the deputy mayor for Tourism, Antonio García Moles, and the general director of Tourism, Joan Mesquida, attended the meeting. On the part of the Regional Ministry, the meeting was attended by the general director of Tourism, Antoni Sansó, and the Regional Minister's cabinet chief, Lluís Apesteguia.
