Renovation of drinking water artery in Son Caliu

Calvià 2nd February 2018

THE RENOVATION WORKS ON THE MAIN DRINKING WATER ARTERY OF CALVIÀ TO BE PERFORMED IN SON CALIU WILL BE FINISHED BEFORE HOLY WEEK

The renovation works on the main drinking water artery, that are being carried out in Son Caliu, are scheduled to be completed before Easter. These works, developed by Hidrobal and supervised by Calvià 2000, are strategic and essential to guarantee the supply of drinking water for most of the municipality, since it is the main artery that feeds all the areas between Cas Català and Peguera.

This renovation, to put an end to the useful life of the current pipeline, is part of the municipal plan for the eradication of pipes with asbestos, since the fiber cement is replaced by cast iron pipes and the useful life of the installation is extended by 50 years. In turn, the water distribution network of Son Caliu is renewed through the installation of pipelines that will improve the quality of service to residents.

The works have focused on Còrdova St. throughout these weeks, and this Monday it will open again to traffic. Once the street is liberated, connections will be made in Burgos St. corner Castelló St. for approximately 2-3 weeks. After this section, the connection will be carried out in Saragossa St. corner Castelló St. for approximately 3 weeks.

Subsequently, the pressure tests will be carried out, a fundamental and necessary step for the start-up of the service that will involve specific cuts in the water supply, which will be notified by Hidrobal 48 hours in advance.

Once the commissioning is completed, the affected streets will be asphalted. The works in Son Caliu will end before Holy Week, to continue in Palmanova until the end of May, thus continuing the plan for the renewal of potable water pipes in the municipality.

The councillor of Son Caliu, Francisca Muñoz, visited the area to check the status of the works.
